From the edge...

As a musician, we had a saying in rehearsals, the director would say “from the edge”, and that meant back to the beginning, the edge of the page. Sometimes we'd be almost through the whole piece and then, “from the edge”,  and we'd all kind of groan about it. Sometimes we'd finish the whole piece and he'd say, “From the edge”, and we'd groan even more. But every time, we got a chance to put together the pieces as a whole and to refine all of the little nuances.

Now flash forward many years, a…

Been there, done that

There is nothing like a new beginning.

Picking up a new hobby. Starting a new career. A new relationship…

Pure possibility.

Over the years I’ve worked with many people making big transitions in their lives. Quitting a job and starting their own business. Trying to learn a new skill. Getting out of a toxic relationship, or trying to find a new partner.

When you’re taking those first awkward steps, one of the first things we tend to do is FORGET everything we already know.

You might say, “B…

Catastrification

The trouble with positive thinking is…

Positive thinking!

One of the the first things you’ll learn on the journey (and probably the last as well) is that “As you think, so you become.”

In his book, “The Master Key System,” Charles Hanel instructs us to focus only on what you want, to the exclusion of all else. If you want to rid yourself of fear, focus only on courage, etc.

And it’s true. 100%.

The trouble comes in putting it into practice. Say you have fear of public speaking. So you…

Brain Training

Brain training is a hot topic. There is a huge market for meditation programs and apps because more and more people are realizing the need to control their focus and attention. There is even a whole supplement sub-market for enhancing brain function for more clarity and focus.

Maybe it's because more and more people are recognizing the power of their thoughts to manifest things in their life.

Or it could be because people are more and more stressed out an agitated.

And let's be honest, it's…

The Mountain, the Squirrel, and You

It's poem time again today. This one by our beloved Ralph Waldo Emerson, and it speaks directly to the essence of this course on self love. It's called, "The Mountain and the Squirrel." The poem...

The mountain and the squirrel
Had a quarrel,
And the former called the latter
"Little prig."
Bun replied,
"You are doubtless very big;
But all sorts of things and weather
Must be taken in together
To make up a year
And a sphere.
And I think it no disgrace
To occupy my place.
If I'm not so large as you,
You are…

Unity

The self-love journey started with a peace treaty because that war inside of us actually fractures our energy and it distorys our sense of self, destroys our confidence and clarity. Along the way, there is a lot to be reconciled before we come into true unity. Reconciliation in our mind and our emotions because unity is when your heart, your mind, and your soul are all on the same page.

When your heart and mind are at odds, there is no hope of hearing what your soul has to say about anything…

Empathy and the Mystery of the World

The better you understand yourself, the better you will understand others.

The only reason you can see things in others that you see...

The things that inspire you

The things that frustrate you

The things that you adore

The things that you despise

All. The. Things...

You can see those things because they are in you.

Rather than projecting onto others, we have an opportunity to seek it out in ourselves.

So when someone does something that repulses you or frustrates you in some way, …

The Cardinal Sin

When I was growing up in the Catholic Church, there were things known as “Cardinal sins.” Kind of like the unforgivable curses in Harry Potter.

These are "the gravest of sins, representing a deliberate turning away from God and destroying charity (love) in the heart of the sinner. A mortal sin is defined as a grave action that is committed in full knowledge of its gravity and with the full consent of the sinner’s will."

And if you die with one of these on your conscience, it's a one-way tic…

iOS Updates

I always know when a new iOS update is coming because all of my apps start asking to be updated. Now don't get me started on how many of those I actually use. That's a story for another message.

Today I want to talk about the updates themselves. Because sometimes I ignore them. 20-30-50 updates piling up. And the longer I let them pile up, the more things start to get weird.

The apps start doing weird things. Not loading properly. Sometimes they're super slow. There's even one that pretends …

Indebted

I’ve had some pretty dysfunctional relationships in my time. And one of the common factors was a tit-for-tat system where we kept score.

Of course there was no formal system, so each person kept tally in their heads and pull out the trump card whenever they wanted something. The other person would either trot out their “list” or begrudgingly comply, like they’d just lost a round.

Like I said…dysfunctional…

I share this because when I started transitioning to a healthy and functional relatio…
