Going on a safari?

Knowledge is power, but not in the way most people think.

I'm a voracious learner. Mostly out of necessity. I come from a family of smart, willful humans, so part of it is a survival instinct.

I also have more ideas than I know what to do with, and most of them require some kind of specific knowledge or skill. So I learn as fast and as best as I can to keep up with my own brain.

Yet learning can also be a trap.

In personal development especially, I've seen so many people reading endless bo…

Doubtable

We’ve all failed and fallen short at times. We’ve all broken promises to ourselves and probably to others too. Living inside ourselves, we’ve seen our very worst. Things we’ve hidden away or tried to forget even.

So it’s no wonder that self-doubt plays a role in our lives.

Whether it’s doubting…

  • a goal we’ve set.
  • that we’ll follow through
  • that we’ll be able to stick with a new commitment.
  • that we have the talent to be successful.
  • that we’ll be able to handle whatever comes our way.
  • t…

Don't be an "a-hole"

Most of us probably have a friend or someone in our life who is always asking for your advice, only to completely ignore it.

I’m not saying that they’re supposed to take the advice every time. But when they keep coming back with the same questions and situations and problems, and keep ignoring the same advice, it’s kind of annoying.

This sort of person is known as an “Ask Hole.”

And maybe you’re chuckling right now because you do know someone like that, but have you ever considered that you…

Love Embodied

There's a big gap between understanding the concept of unconditional love and actually living it. So unconditional love is basically a love that exists beyond circumstance or preconceived notions. It just "is."

You can understand the concept and even agree with it, but still think thoughts and take actions that are contrary to that. And likewise, you can do loving things and practice self-care and still not completely buy into the idea of self love or think that you're worth it and have resista…

About Ruby

Today we're going back into the archives of The Great British Baking Show, back to season two. There was a young lady in season two named Ruby and Ruby lacked confidence. From the first episode, I thought that there was no way she would make it any further than that but she surprised me.

One of the things that she does is she points out all the bad things to the judges before they even taste her bakes. This is a subtle form of manipulation. She manipulates herself by beating herself down so …

One thing you can do without

Today I want to talk about one thing that you can definitely do without, and that is doubt.

Doubt is the crack in the door that leads to some places where we'd probably rather not be. What happens when we start to get into doubt and when we start to buy into that conversation in our own mind or whittle away at our self-confidence?

It escalates into worry. Worry starts to spin up and then we start to get into anxiety and the anxiety builds up and sooner or later, we'll be gripped by fear and …

Always perfectly placed

One of the things that we do that keeps us stuck in doubt, erodes our confidence, and creates worry, fear, and anxiety, is we make it wrong to be exactly where we are.

We make it wrong to be experiencing the circumstances that we're having in our lives. We make it wrong that we maybe haven't achieved the things that we wanted or created the results that we want in our lives, or that we're not experiencing the things that we want. And in doing so, we make a part of ourselves wrong.

It's nat…

Ridikulus

Today, we're talking about fear. There are two fears that are basically hardwired into us. The fear of falling and the fear of loud noises. All the rest are actually created through conditioning.

That doesn't make them any less real or debilitating when that fear really takes hold, but it does give us a place to go to remember that the fear is created inside of us and that we can also uncreate it and set ourselves free.

To get a handle on this, we can turn to the great J.K. Rowling and the …

Coin Toss

When you're beating yourself up, putting yourself down, comparing yourself to others, and finding yourself lacking, you're in an inferiority complex. And when you're boosting yourself up above others, and over-inflating your sense of self you're in a superiority complex, pretty simple right?

What I’ve realized is that they're just flip sides of the exact same coin. And that coin is a game that keeps us bouncing from one side to the other, looking at the world to validate us and make us feel …

Prove it

One of the things that we do when we have a feeling of not being good enough or worthy is that we set about trying to prove ourselves. So outside we often tend to overwork or get into perfectionism to try and protect ourselves from that criticism or protect ourselves from that feeling. And what we really end up doing is exhausting ourselves and setting ourselves up for disappointment.

As a musician, I had a story that I wasn't naturally talented or creative. So I thought to myself, well, if I …
